Applesauce

Mrs. Miyasaki, the Kennedy school librarian, called us last week and told us to come pick some apples from her yard. The girls and I went over and picked for literally 15 minutes and had about 25 pounds of apples ready to take home. We made applesauce and about 4 quarts of apple juice with the help of Mrs. Miyasaki's juicer and food mill thing. We ended up with 11 quarts of slightly green-tinted applesauce. It's kind of tart, but it was FREE and we do like the flavor.

While we were making applesauce, we also turned out another dozen pints of spicy tomato/green chile salsa. We still have lots of green chiles in the freezer for future salsa making. I hope you all have realized that you will be getting salsa for Christmas.
