New Family Pictures

I haven't been able to sleep since 2:00am so I thought I'd post our new family pictures. I like this batch much better. Our plans were to send out Christmas cards or print and frame some for Christmas presents, but medical bills have changed our plans for Christmas presents. I posted some pictures on Facebook, but I'll post all of them here on the blog for your viewing pleasure. I have each of these pictures in black/white as well, but I think I like the color versions of all of them. If you're interested in printing any of these or seeing the black/white versions, call Landon and he can hook you up.
It was Lauren's idea to get a picture with just mom and dad and no sister, so then Emma wanted one like that too. Also, there is one black/white picture of Lauren without a color version for some reason. I think Kristina probably thought she included the color version, but actually didn't.

Funny Laurenisms

Today at Activity Days Lauren painted a "prayer rock." She told me that she didn't get to take it home yet because they were going to spray a clear coat over the paint so it wouldn't come off. Then she told me that she doesn't care if she ever gets it back because she's never going to use it. "I don't need to put a rock on my pillow and bang my head on it just to remind me to pray." (She says she never forgets to say her prayers anyway, so it's not as bad as it sounds.)
We were walking around, browsing at Deseret Book tonight. Lauren said, "Wouldn't it be funny if we went to visit the Sacred Grove and Jesus and Heavenly Father showed up again?"
One more thing: she refers to our neighbor, a lady named Sandy Humphreys, as "Sandy Cheeks." (That's the squirrel on Sponge Bob, but I crack up every time she refers to our neighbor that way.)

Case Study

Landon passed his case study yesterday! He had already passed the written part, but still had to make a 20 minute presentation to the committee. We went to ISU in Pocatello, he made his presentation and after answering some questions from the committee, he was told that he passed. One of his professors invited me to listen to his presentation, so I was happy to sit in the back and listen. I could tell how nervous he was just because I know him so well, but I think he came across very smooth to the committee. He did a great job and we were so happy to walk out of that building together!

This is Landon as we got out of the truck and started walking toward the building before he gave his presentation. He looked very handsome and professional!!This is Landon, enjoying the Red Lobster Endless Shrimp special after passing his case study. We really enjoyed that shrimp!

We had a fun day in Pocatello and bought the girls a variety pack of shower gel and bath poufs to share, so they could take part in the celebration. Lauren took a long, relaxing bath last night.

Funny Emma

Tonight Landon was teasing Emma while they were cleaning up after dinner. Emma eventually said, "stop it, you sneaky little bastard!" Landon told me that Emma called him a bastard (I guess I'm the disciplinarian???), so all I could do is laugh super hard. I asked Emma if she knew what that word meant and whether she knew it was a bad word. She said no and no. The lesson I learned is that when we use bad language we need to make sure to clarify which words the girls are and are not allowed to use later.

Veteran's Day Program

The 4th graders at Lauren's school did a Veteran's Day program to honor the veterans. Lauren was sooo excited about this! I couldn't figure out why she was so excited, but she just was. She made me go buy her an "airforce" costume at DI. This was the best I could do, and luckily she was very happy with it. She and Dad looked exactly the same.

Lauren is on the left side, second row from the top in the first picture, the top in the second picture, and second from the top in the third picture (holding a blue paper with stars).

In that second picture, the kids are doing sign language to the Star-Spangled Banner. As LDS people, why do we feel the need to make kids sing in sign language during any program, church-related or not? Are there that many deaf people in the audience?

This and That

Here are some random pictures of what we've been up to lately: It snowed! Big time! Mainly on Monday, but there as been a little more snow each day this week. I don't know if I was quite ready for it, even though we expected snow by Halloween. It was so nice to have such a long, beautiful, warm fall. (Lauren is the kid in the blue-ish coat on her knees in the snow.)

Landon decided it was finally time to buy some new insoles for his shoes. His feet were sore at work, and I guess he figured out why and bought some good gel inserts. Maybe one day we'll be rich enough to buy new shoes when we need them!! (Says the girl wearing the same black church shoes from Payless since 1998!)Landon is hell-bent on breeding his class gerbils. He picked up this male gerbil (buck? bull?) for free from the BYU-I bulletin board, complete with cage, ball, bedding, and food. He put the little guy in the cage with Marshmallow and Brownie, the girl gerbils (does? cows?) and they got into a fight. Marshmallow attacked the boy and drew blood. Brownie was fine with him, I guess. I have a theory that Marshmallow is a lesbian gerbil and was protecting her girlfriend. I call her "Butch" now. So inappropriate.I bought a $40 futon on BYU-I bulletin board for Lauren's room. Whenever we have company, Emma gives up her bed and then has to sleep on the couch or on an airbed. It's kind of hard after a few days, because she really loves her space. Well, because we'll be having company for several weeks, we decided to try to fix the problem. Emma will get the twin bed and Lauren will get the futon while Grammy's here, and again later when Nana's here. Landon has some grand plans about building a lofted bed over the top of the futon so there is more space in Lauren's room, but I'm hoping the current situation will be sufficient and no lofting is needed. The futon is a piece of crap, but Landon is very handy and fixed it so it doesn't sag in the middle. Lauren tried it out last night and loved it.

Check it out!!! It was really fun. (click on the word "share")

FUN weekend

We had a really fun weekend! Friday night Landon and I intended to go to Stockman's for a yummy steak dinner with some of his birthday money, but at the last minute just kept driving to Idaho Falls and ate at Five Guys for less than half the price. I LOVE Five Guys! After dinner, we went to Ross and just looked around, which was really fun minus kids. Landon ended up buying a new pair of summer sandals (leather Clark-brand sandals in size 14 for only $20!) and a new pair of sunglasses. (In case some people don't know, Landon loses sunglasses on a regular basis...it's kind of a family joke. He's not allowed to spend more than $5-7 on a pair of sunglasses anymore, so he got more bang for his buck at Ross.)
After Ross, we headed back to Rexburg to see The Other Guys, a movie with Will Ferrell that we'd been wanting to see. It was our kind of movie and we laughed so hard we cried and had college kids turning around to look at us. (You know what? They're so freaking annoying 99% of the time, that I'm glad we laughed loud enough to annoy them.) We got home around 11:30 and our little girls were sound asleep in our bed. We are in SUCH a good time in our lives right now! We bought them a set of 6 nail polishes from Ross as their payment for being good kids while we were gone.
Saturday morning we had our family pictures re-taken, which I just went to look at this morning. They're way better. I can't wait until they're ready to post/print/give away.
Saturday afternoon the girls were told to put their pumpkins in the dumpster, but they decided to get destructive and smash the crap out of them first. I suggested getting hammers and beating them as hard as they could. My girls don't play as hard as boys or choose to get dirty very often, so as long as they clean up the mess, why not??

Landon and I spent Saturday cooking! We had invited the Bates family over for homemade pizza on Sunday, so we did all the prep work Saturday. We wanted them to have a good experience, so we made Christina's BBQ chicken pizza that is in our 2nd family cookbook. We made the BBQ sauce, caramelized onions, chicken, and the pizza dough. Landon found a recipe for homemade mozzarella cheese, so we made that too! It turned out great! The recipe is basically a gallon of milk (we used 2%), a half tablet of Junket Rennet dessert tablets (found in the pudding section...the same company that makes Danish Dessert) and some citric acid (found in bulk in the health food section of our grocery store). The recipe is in the Junket tablet box, but also online and it's called American Mozzarella cheese. One gallon of milk made 3 1-cup balls of cheese. It melts and tastes just like normal cheese, in my opinion. It was a fun thing to try.

Saturday night we went to Dancing with The Stars, the Rexburg version. Emma's math teacher was one of the stars and he won! There were 6 "stars" and they were paired up with senior students of Emma's ballroom dance company, IBA. The event was a fundraiser for the new high school's grand piano and marquee that they're trying to buy. We drug Landon to it, but he actually really enjoyed himself. We were able to see several ballroom dance performances from the IBA as well as cheer on different community members as they competed as the "stars." It is so much fun to live in a community where we know so many people and where they have wholesome, fun, family recreation activities. It was a really positive experience for us.

Sunday we had the Bates family over for homemade pizza! The pizza was tasty, and Jenny brought over the best dessert! It was Apple/Cranberry pie. She got it from Family Fun magazine, so if you want to make it, look for it online. It was really yummy. The Bates have 3 kids and Emma and Lauren get along with all of them really well, so the kids played Judge Judy/detective/spies together upstairs, while the adults played a fun TV trivia game on DVD. It is so hard to find adults who know as much about TV as we do, and the Bates actually almost beat us! We pulled out the victory on the last question, otherwise we would have been toast.

Such a fun weekend!!!

Dad's Birthday

We celebrated the heck out of Landon's birthday, Monday. He didn't want to face the disgusting pizza school lunch, so I brought Jimmy John's sandwiches for the two of us to eat in his classroom during lunch. Then I stayed and passed out the cream puffs/eclairs I had made that morning for his little 3rd graders, the lunch ladies and the teachers in his hallway. Mondays are early-out days, so I stayed and read the class book to the kids, had them sing Happy Birthday, ask any questions they had for Mr. LeFevre, took pictures of them and tried to kill as much time as I could, so Mr. LeFevre didn't have to do any more teaching Monday afternoon.
After school, Landon came home and opened his presents (a hot drink cup, a toothbrush, BBQ pork rinds, and cash for a new Wii game, plus cards from the girls), then checked his email to see he had PASSED his case study!!! Woo Hoo! We were jumping for joy and I think we all felt a huge sense of relief. (That's really an understatement, but we've talked to a lot of you and I think you know how excited we are! BTW, Kevin didn't pass!!! Awkward!) We drove to Idaho Falls for Cafe Rio and some birthday shopping. Landon ended up buying the Legos Batman Wii game, and the 2005 Grammy CD (used at Hastings in IF). It was a great birthday for the best dad/husband ever!

Family Pictures

We paid $20 to a friend just starting in the photography business to take some family pictures of us. We went out to the BYU-Idaho Henry's Fork property, where we like to roast hot dogs. We only ended up with one family picture that we kind of liked (above), and then some random pictures we also liked. For $20, we did OK, I guess. She told us she'd take us back out there and re-do our session if we didn't like what we got. We're thinking about it, just because our purpose was to get a family picture. We only got the one, and Emma isn't wearing her glasses! She looks cute without them, but that isn't what she really looks like at this point in her life. We know her as glasses-wearing Emma. I'd love some of your opinions!
